The SS RAVNANGER was built in the Netherlands at the Giessen & Zonen Shipyard Kampen in 1919 for Westfal Larsen of Bergen, a dry bulk carrier of 5674 tons deadweight she did a wide range of trading from Arkhangelsk on the Barents Sea Coast of Russia to Buenos Aires in Argentina and from the Black Sea to the Gulf of Mexico |

In 1820 Arie van der Giessen inherited the |

company from his uncle. |

The company was located in the |

“Stormpolder” in Krimpen ann de Ijssel. |

Van der Giessen mostly made small vessels. |
|
In 1853 the keel was laid for the first seagoing vessel. |
|
In 1904 Mr Jan Ulrich Schmit starts a ship building company |

in Alblasserdam called Werf de Noord. |
|
And In 1962 the two companies merge into |

Van der Giessen de Noord and continue to build ships. |
