A Short history of Ship Builders Van der Giessen

In 1820 Arie van der Giessen inherited the
company from his uncle.
The company was located in the
“Stormpolder” in Krimpen ann de Ijssel.
Van der Giessen mostly made small vessels.
In 1853 the keel was laid for the first seagoing vessel.
In 1904 Mr Jan Ulrich Schmit starts a ship building company
in Alblasserdam called Werf de Noord.
And In 1962 the two companies merge into
Van der Giessen de Noord and continue to build ships.
